The Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers House Trust today announced that Megan Washington and Josten Myburgh have been awarded the Prelude residencies for 2026.

Washington will spend 2026 in residence at the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers House in Sydney’s Paddington, while Myburgh will move into historic Gallop House, overlooking the Swan River in Perth.

The successful applicants are provided with sole occupancy of the houses for 12 months as well as $15,000 to assist with living costs.

Commenting on the outcome, Meg Washington said

“I am so excited and grateful to be the recipient of this years residency. I hope to honour Peggys incredible musicality in my compositions written at the house. I also hope to honour her legendary party spirit by having as many salons and soirées as possible”.

On hearing the news Josten Myburgh said

The gift of slowness and clarity offered by Gallop House will be an opportunity to transform curiosities into commitments and make some big shifts in my musical approach.

The Prelude program is built on the vision of internationally successful Australian composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks (1912 - 1990) who bequeathed her terrace home in Sydney as a haven for composers.

Chair of the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Trust, Paul Mason commented

Peggy Glanville-Hicks was a pioneer with incredible insight & generosity, who understood from her own experience how important certainty, time & space are to artists. We’re excited to now offer that support to Meg and Josten.”
